The Hatch Foundation 5th Annual Green Chili Cook-Off and Jazz Benefit Concert

The Hatch Foundation announces its 5th Annual Green Chili Cook-Off and Jazz Benefit Concert - where funds raised will be used to support those affected by the 2010 Fourmile Canyon Fire.

Few know that the fire was the most financially devastating fire in Colorado’s history causing over $200M in damage claims alone. Although few are probably aware, a very larger percentage of the residents in that area are artists and musicians most of which are not receiving financial assistance or qualify for federal grants.

Several musicians have offered to lend their talents to the fundraiser including local favorite Janine Santana Latin Jazz (who almost lost her home in the fire), the Lynn Baker Quartet, Ken Walker, Marc Sabatella, Wendy Fopeano and Friends. KUVO’s Susan Gatschet-Reese will MC the event.

As for the Green Chili Cook-Off - the winner walks away with a cash prize, a gold lamé shirt and a trophy - and of course, bragging rights.

The event which kicks-off on Sunday, January 30th at 2 p.m. at the Oriental Theater and is sponsored by the Hatch Foundation, Services for Artists, Oriental Theater and many other local companies.  For more information on the event, ticketing, how to support the cause, and how to enter the cook-off, visit the HatchFoundation.org.

Renowned Artist Lindsey Kuhn to Exhibit at Shack Man Glass

Shack Man Glass Studio and Gallery is pleased to host an exhibition of new works by Colorado artist Lindsey Kuhn. Kuhn will be present for the opening reception on Friday, November 5, 2010 from 6 - 9 p.m. Where he will be signing posters and copies of his book, Lure of the Swamp. This exhibition will continue through the end of November 2010.

Is there a cerebral connection somewhere between art and skateboarding? For some people, skating is an art, for others, art has nothing to do with skating. Then there are those who combine these two things to form a lifestyle.

Lindsey Kuhn has found a way to turn his passions into career, and has been both skating and creating art for over two decades. He Was Born in Evanston, IL, but grew up on the coast of Mississippi, where the now infamous Swamp ramp(s) stood for over 10 years. In 1983 he began screen printing t-shirts, primarily to pay for maintenance of the ramp. Those simple t-shirts have ballooned into an internationally known company called SWAMP. Today, Lindsey is best known for his silk screened rock posters for hundreds of bands like The Melvins, Tool, Supersuckers, Nashville Pussy and more. Swamp also does custom printing and publishes work for other artists.

In 1994, Lindsey started Conspiracy Skateboards because of the lack of big skateboards in the industry at that time. Today, Conspiracy has grown into one of the few truly “independent” skate companies working with artists like Pushead, Stainboy, Angryblue as well as having some of the best skaters in the country.

Lindsey has done graphics for XBOX, Camel, Oakley and live screen printing for the “Southern Comfort Music Experience”. Lindsey is currently is part of the new documentary "American Artifact - The Rise Of American Rock Poster Art".

Shack Man Glass Studio and Gallery is located in the Historic Highlands - Berkeley Neighborhood at 3918 Tennyson Street in Denver, Colorado. For more information visit Shack Man Glass’ website at http://www.shackmanglass.com

Denver Modernism Show Aug 27-28-29 adds new exhibitors, Miss Modernism Pageant, and more!

The 5th Annual Denver Modernism Show hits town August 27-28-29, with new surprises and new exhibitors in store. More than 100 booths of vintage and contemporary modern design, home decor and art lure modernism fans from across the US each year to Denver's mid-century fan fest.

"Our exhibitor line-up this year is looking to be the best yet," says organizer Dana Cain. "About a third of the stuff is coming in from out of state, and the local dealers have had pieces tucked away for months, getting ready for this show ... so it's going to be amazing once we get it all under one roof!"

In addition to the show-stopping show floor, the Denver Modernism Show will feature some exciting new events this year. The Miss Modernism Pageant is the Friday night highlight, with contestants vying for the sash and crown that also comes with a $500 shopping spree at the show, and a free ticket to Palm Springs Modernism Week in February. Contestants hit the stage at 8pm, and will be judged on retro style, charm and a talent competition.  The prestigious panel of judges will include Mona Lucero ( Mona Lucero Design), Jennifer Strauss (Modernism Magazine), Boyd Rice (vintage pop culture and tiki expert and author), Vince Varia (Vince Varia Salon), and Lauren Rennells (author of Vintage Hairstyling: Retro Styles with Step by Step Techniques).

Another new addition to the 2010 program schedule is the Vintage Voltage Expo on Saturday, 10am - 3pm. This show has developed a strong following in its late March time slot, and after many requests, Cain agreed to add a second date - during the Modernism Show. The Vintage Voltage Expo features classic gear for audio, radio, TV and music fans. Think: turntables, transistor radios, Predicta TVs and plenty of mid-century electronics .... the old kind with tubes! The electronics 'side show' will be directly connected to the massive Modernism Show floor, and the $5 Saturday ticket gets you into both events.

On Sunday, after the electronics show moves out, the Car Show rolls in! The Denver Modernism Car Show: Stylish at Any Speed will be expanding this year too! With free car entry, and a plethora of category prizes and ribbons, leading up to the $200 cash prize for "BEST IN SHOW," this show highlights the post-atomic car design era, 1947 - present, with an emphasis on vintage modern design. From 50s fins to 70s muscle cars and more, the show is a feast for the eyes. Beatles tribute band, The Fables, are also scheduled for Sunday.

Charles Phoenix, America's favorite histo-tainer, dubbed "the King of Retro" by the LA Times, returns to the Denver Modernism Show as MC again this year. Phoenix will be hosting the Miss Modernism Pageant, judging the Car Show, and treating fans to another Retro Slide Show on Sunday afternoon. He'll also be creating a "cherpumpel" in his booth -- a preview of his new "Charles Phoenix Test Kitchen" TV show!

The entertainment roster is full this year, with bands every day, lectures on Saturday and more. Once again, the Tiki Lounge is open all three days with tiki drinks, tiki vendors and tiki artwork. And the juried Denver Modernism Gallery art show is up for all three days, with the Art Awards being presented Friday night at 7:30 pm. Friday night bands include Perry Weismann 3 and Velveteen Loveseat.

Tickets are just $5 on Saturday (includes admission to the Vintage Voltage Expo); $8 on Sunday (includes admission to the post-atomic Car Show) and children under 12 are admitted free. Friday Preview Party tickets (7 - 10 pm) are $15, and for there are a limited number of VIP Early Preview Gala tickets (5 - 7 pm) for $35. VIP tickets also act as weekend passes, good for all events.
